FEEDS AND SPEEDS
STARTING GUIDELINE FOR FEEDS AND SPEEDS
Every machine will be different. Large Heavier all steel construction machines will allow higher feed rates and spindle speeds.
- At no time should the Sanding head be run in excess of 8000 RPM.
- Feed rate is machine dependent
- Downward Pressure recommended .015. Let the Paper do the work, Just keep the paper in in contact with the work surface. Too much pressure can stall the head.
- Make sure you spindle is trammed in. If it is out of tram it could cause excessive vibration because of being out of balance. Listen to your machine.
Small light weight machines Aluminum Frame starting point: 5 HP or less
5 or 6 Inch Pad 4000 RPM 100 IPM and .010 Depth Of Cut or downward pressure.
Mediums Size machines All Steel Frame min 5 Horse Power.
5" or 6" pad 5000 RPM 150 IPM .010 DOC or Downward Pressure
Heavier machines all Steel 7HP and Above 5000 RPM 200 IPM and Depth of Cut(pressure) .010
These are starting Points,. You can email me with your number and I will call you back if you have Feeds and speeds questions. This sanding head is on a machine that weighs approx. 15,000 lbs. and has a HSK 63 15 HP Spindle. It is running at 8000 RPM and 250 IPM material is first surfaced using a surfacing shell mill then sanded. The example shown is sanded with 80 grit.
